Souleymane Coulibaly scores on Spurs debut

Follow me on Twitter – @WindyCOYS.

16 year old striker, Souleymane Coulibaly, signed after his impressive showings for Côte d’Ivoire in the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup, came off the bench to get his first Spurs goal as our young players held Brighton to a very creditable 2-2 draw in Portugal.

Again, I can’t be sure of the formation, but our team was:

Button
Byrne Livermore Nicholson Townsend
Pritchard Luongo Carroll Kane
Mason Obika

Subs: Soli, Waller-Lassen, Oyenuga, Milos Veljkovic (trialist)

Brighton’s line-up was not first choice, but certainly more experienced than ours:

Brezovan
Calderon Cook Hall Painter
Sparrow Bridcutt Smith LuaLua
Hoskins Agdestein

Subs: Poke (GK), Greer, Vincelot, Dicker, Buckley, Navarro, Mackail-Smith.

Spurs went 2-0 down (goals from Hoskins and Agdestein) but Andros Townsend’s long-range effort made it 2-1 at the break. “Soli” replaced Obika at half-time and scored from close range ten minutes into his debut to equalise. He was lively for the rest of the match, having a number of efforts on goal – the Brighton website described him as a “livewire”.

Spurs bossed the second half, but were unable to find a winner. Still, a draw and a win against Championship opposition is very impressive for our young development squad, managed in Portugal by Tim Sherwood and Les Ferdinand.

  1. Would love to see footage of him in this match
Regardless of if he is ready, he should go into the first team, even if playing 20 minutes to get the true premier league pace and power, having a consistent run of games will make him wanna stay as he will develop a love for the club, instead of not get played for 3 years have 1 shot then sold to some high bidder who he will flourish under or ultimately be worse under, make him feel like a king!
  2. Well done Windy you truly are a super fan in my eyes keeping us informed of our new talent. This kid could be the reel deal and Townsend should be in Africa because another loan will ruin him. davspurs
  3. What about ceballos?
  4. As ever Windy cheers.

Same comment - any sign of Ceballos and do you reckon he'll play Saturday at Barnet? Keep it up.
  5. Harry will not give this lad the time. We will loan him, sell him for next to nothing and then he will be sold for millions.
  6. if we do not bring in any new strikers this kid will hit the ground running.this kid is the real deal.
  7. Hope he gets a game, the first team squad are not exactly setting the world on fire up front - and haven't been since early in the calendar year. Having said that, for all our supposedly creative midfielders and flying wingers, we're not exactly creating loads of chances. Modric getting the armband tonight demeans it given the circumstances, although appreciate what Harry is trying to do there. Would love Coulibaly to get his break with us and go on to bang in 20+ a season for years to come.
  8. It must drive Rose and Bale nuts. They get all the balls across and there is no one there on the end of it. When they are they might as well not be
  9. Just shut the fuck up you whingers. Your team just got to the last 8 in the champions league and finished 5th in the league. Listening to some of you a-holes, you'd think spurs were in west hams position and redknapp a manager of avram grant ability. What us the matter with you idiots? Any club aside from it's, Chelsea and Cuty would take our forwards over theirs. You think arse fans are happy seeing bendtner and Walcott charging round like headless chickens? Yiu think the scousers like seeing andy Carroll lumbering around at 2 mph? How about everton fans watching Tom Cahill partnering fallaini up front some weeks. And you have to put up with van der vaart, pav, crouch and Defoe (all full internationals with outstanding goal ratios).

As for the test saying Harry won't give this new kid a chance, based on what mate? Are youvsaying he didn't give the kids a chance at wham? Are youvsaying he hasn't given the likes if bale, Rose, sandro etc a chance? Garry picks youngsters if they are good enough and have the right attitude. In the cases of the likes of bostock, taraabt and dos santos this simply isn't the case. Try
  10. Well said there..
  11. Disagree with anonymouse Angry fan above..

Bale was linked with cheap moves to the Championship before he was forced to be played because of an injury to BAE. Similarly, Sandro never played until there were injuries to Hudd, Modders, and Sgt Wilson. The true story is those of KP Boateng, dos Santos, Taarabt etc.

Will be interested to watch Coulibaly do 90 mins, he impressed me at the U17 WC but he was only playing against kids really so i'd like to see how he manages against fully-developed professionals!
  12. First time on this site and thumbs up to Windy for making the effort, nice one and much appreciated. As for angry fan, VDV aside, I fail to understand the outstanding goal ratio of Crouch, Pav and Defoe. Certainly not when they are wearing a Spurs shirt, how many goals did they score last season? Anyway, yes I would prefer Carroll, Cahill, Dempsey, Odemwinge, Gyan to name but a few over the current muppets we have up front. Back on topic, very happy for Soli. Maybe just maybe we signed a little gem. COYS
  13. To the Angry/idiot fan above. No team in their right mind would take 3 forwards unable to score into d/b figures in the league. last 8 of CL or not(how long will you live on that), The form of the 2nd half of the season, actually left us 2nd from bottom in the table, based on a yr's performance. So your right, Im not happy with the forwards or the manager. As stated above, Harry was trying to sell Bale and Pav in the Jan but couldnt. Bale was forced to play and we have what we have now. Pav went on to score 8 in 6 or something. Getting us into the top 4. (The only good spell he's had). Crouch is a shocking player would should never play top flight football. As for a manager who has hap 2keepers on the bench rather than bring in a youngster to cover it, on more than 3/4 occasions. That in ver very poor. And to say you wouldnt have the likes of Carroll shows your lack of footballing knowledge
  14. Anon @ 21:35 - if you do find any footage, I'd love to see it. Sadly nothing on the Brighton player. Totally agree re giving him games - I think a lot more of our young players should have had the occasional cameo - that was why we urged the vote for 7 substitutes, after all.

    Davspurs - thank you!

Anon @ 22:17 - Ceballos wasn't involved this time, but please see my previous article.

hoopspur - cheers. No Ceballos this time out (maybe hadn't played in a while?), but I reckon he'll play a part vs Barnet. He has been included in the squad that Barnet have published.

Anon @ 22:34 - I hope you're wrong. Remember that the likelihood is that Redknapp will only be with us for one more year. Hopefully our next manager will show a bit more willingness to use our young players.

    Anon @ 22:37 - Fingers crossed. I still think we'll sign Vucinic...

munkeyjim - I'm 100% sure that he'd be at least as effective as Defoe has over the past year! Tend to agree about Modric, but can also see it from the other angle - i.e. trying to convince him to stay and show him that he's still valued.

Morgan - some great crosses last night from both Rose and Bale. And Walker's cut back to Kranjcar was excellent too.

Anon @ 22:37 - You must be able to understand the frustration - having been in such a strong position at the end of December, we just needed a goal-scoring striker and we'd have almost certainly finished 4th (or even 3rd).

Anon @ 01:14 - Tend to agree. Redknapp's use of young players has been conservative at best, despite his spin.

Anon @ 07:53 - Thanks - if you look through some of the old articles you'll get a feel for what I aim to do with this blog. Thanks for visiting.

Anon @ 08:42 - I think the main point is that our strikers are so far below the levels of the rest of our team.
  15. Lets put this striker argument to bed firstly our strikers are no different than any other strikers who are suffering from lack of space. Let me explain myself i no 100 percent part of some teams fitness is energy drugs and this is why you will see some teams chasing the ball like terrieres allover the pitch and when the ball his delivered in the box there is at least six or eight players defending. This blanket defending is not down to super fit players and energy drinks but like i say illegal substancesthis means the only way to beat this closing down is with fast long raking balls so attackers get beyond defenders this is done remarkable well by Huddlestone the missing link by sadly at the moment his passing mechanism is playing up his ankle wont heal after his operation so he can take a tackle or a long fizzing pass or shot.I studied our whole season by scanning our great magazines and when Huddlestone played we created more and won more games when he got injured we drew more and lost more and King was the other missing link. So when you call our strikers remeber this Torres 50 million no goals Dzeko 27 millon one goal that was offside Rooney struggled till he went away to Nike training complex ? This hurts me to say this but unless this enegised Blanket defending and ppressing for 90 plus mins is not stopped then all aStrikers will struggle Berbatov leading scorer had three ha tricks and scored 22 goals the ones who i discovered using this illegal method showed me how big it has become since three seasons ago and Toure was unlucky he got picked to give a sample because he was on the bench for the only game of the season against UTD when the Nike man Rooney did his overhead kick to snatch all three points. This is the hidden scandal and just has big has phone hacking but kept under the carpet buy another Murdock run industry Sky.
  16. I tried to translate Anonymous 20 July 2011 10:58's post into English, didn't have much luck though :P

  17. My name is Nick, or Ron Burgundy (NLP & SC)

Windy you are my hero, who I follow on twitter, and I always read your blog

You are a Spurs (fan) legend!

Keep up the good work. We'll see about Soli (I prefer writing that cause it's easier) but it sounded like a good start

The guy who always seems to get good write ups but who's otherwise less heralded is Massimo Luongo - he's an Aussie midfielder isn't he?

    Know anything about him?
  18. RE: I know 100% part of some teams fitness is energy drugs ............If you know 100% then do something about it. Dont just talk about it. It's like the phone hacking whistleblowers saying they know but not proving it. If you had the fact there is cheating going on, do something. Otherwise 1)Your as bad as them and 2)Shut up about it!
  19. If it aint broke why fix it.
But if it aint perfect it can be improved.
We had a successful season last year but it could have and should have been better.

We should have gone further in the CL and qualified for it again.
Look at our last 10 games.

    Never satisfied?
Nope and nor should you be.

Cheers Windy as always. Keep panning for them nuggets
  20. Massimo Luongo is an Austrailian central midfield player who came for a trial at Spurs in 2009 - if memory serves me right for the Dallas Cup - and stayed, but for some reason has only got his own web page as a Spurs player in the last month. Has played for Spurs under 18's and during 2010/11 for Spurs X1. Always gets good reviews as a hardworking player with good passing and reasonable shooting skills. Has played for Austrailian under 20's (dob 25/9/82) but not selected for their final world cup squad. Likely to go out on loan in 2011/12 according to an interview he gave Australian tv in March.
  21. Nick/Ron Burgundy - thank you, I really appreciate your comments! What's your Twitter username? As for Luongo, Anon @ 18:35 (is that you, Nils-Rune?) has given you about as much info as I could offer! He is a really composed player - strong on the ball, intelligent off the ball, and just generally a good all-rounder. Really good prospect!

Jimmy - Spot on, as usual.

    Anon @ 18:35 - thank you :)
  22. Anon @ 18:35 (is that you, Nils-Rune?) No - but I post on SC as 'Spursidol', and very infrequently here (no point in posting as you usually have covered the subject well) as Anon. I enjoy the blog - please keep it up !
  23. I love this site, deals in actual facts and leaves speculation and gossip to a seperate comment section. A shame the Mainstream news companies don't return to keeping opinion to the editorial section only.

I've been reading for ages but rarely comment, thought it was about time I applauded your good work.

I'm afraid I have only really picked up on Ceballos and Coulibaly, where are we with this Witham guy from Mexico? has he joined us yet?
  24. Spursidol - Appreciate that, cheers.

bonse - Thanks for the kind words! Whitham apparently failed a medical, and has since been trialing at Crystal Palace. Given that he couldn't get into the Mexican side he was at, I'm not too worried about that one...
  25. hi guys i m also spurs fan from india.love to follow this blog
