The case for dropping Defoe
It would be crazy to drop a player who has just scored a hat trick in his last game; only a lunatic would do that, surely? That is absolutely what I would do for Sunday’s game against Manchester City.

Beric’s goal – An absolute disaster for two players playing for a place in Sunday’s side – Naughton plays a terrible pass back to Lloris, who tries to round Beric, only for the scorer from the first game to read his movement and finish.
Back in September I wrote a youth/loan update, and so much has happened for our young players since then that it seems a good time for another.
Ben Watson’s goal – A Wigan corner is drifted into the six yard box. Friedel attempts to punch it away, but can only push it into the path of Watson, who sends it back first time.
Vertonghen’s own goal – A corner comes back out to the edge of the box, and a Tettey volley hits Vertgonhen and finds the corner of Lloris’ goal.
