goal analysis

  1. Beric’s goal – An absolute disaster for two players playing for a place in Sunday’s side – Naughton plays a terrible pass back to Lloris, who tries to round Beric, only for the scorer from the first game to read his movement and finish.

  2. Ben Watson’s goal – A Wigan corner is drifted into the six yard box. Friedel attempts to punch it away, but can only push it into the path of Watson, who sends it back first time.
  3. Vertonghen’s own goal – A corner comes back out to the edge of the box, and a Tettey volley hits Vertgonhen and finds the corner of Lloris’ goal.

  4. Jay Rodriguez goal – A Southampton corner is played towards Fonte at the near post, who flicks on intelligently. Friedel claws the ball out, but Rodriguez is on hand to put the rebound in.
  5. Beric’s goal – Andros Townsend gives the ball away in midfield, and Maribor counter. Dejan Mezga runs off Sigurdsson, drives into the box, beats Huddlestone with ease, dinks the ball over Lloris, and leaves Robert Beric with a tap-in.
